The main source of information for the public is from the newspapers or television and for fearful flyers in particular those misleading Air Disaster and Black Box programs. As you’ll see when you visit the Fear of flying Support Network most people describe their experiences in very emotive terms, descending is often called plummetting and taking off is anything from blasting off to heading skywards. None of these words help when you have a fear of flying. That’s why we’ve prepared this section…it tells you about the things that concern you but in a style that is easy to understand but accurate. This may not seem very important to you right now with all the other things you have to worry about, but the way we describe things influences how you feel and subsequently how you behave. And it’s very important to re-structure your thoughts so that you can overcome your fear of flying and behave in a way that causes you less anxiety.
